Back in the late 50's, my Dad fulfilled his dream of owing his own bicycle shop and called it 'Stanfords' on Chiswick, where that little lad (me aged 3 I think), was born and raised.

The pics show Dad's 'Stanfords' invoice stamp, the 'Stanfords' water slide decal for bikes he built or supplied, and other decals to add further glitz to your wheels!

Sadly, the 60s car boom spelt the closure of the shop in the mid-60s and Dad never got to see the re-emergence of cycling in the past decade or so.

But through his example-setting, Dad led me to appreciate that cycling and walking are no-brainers as the simplest, quickest, cheapest means for most urban journeys. Ever since I've defaulted to walking, cycling, bus or rail, though using a car when that was the 'right tool' for the job.

Thanks Dad!

PS the bike on the right was Dad's finest build and could be had for...wait for it...£27!
